The Life & Hope Awards for Humanitarian Medical Services, a global call to celebrate the goodness in life, (https://www.friendsofziv.org/event/), holds deep empathy for Venezuelans forced to leave their country in order to survive.

Jews far too often have known oppression, persecution and expulsion and the dark side of life. That is part of the reason Friends of Ziv support Venezuelans with this project.

For 2000 years Jews became experts on forced expulsion and migration whether from their homeland to the Diaspora, or from one host country to another.

It all began with Exodus, Pharaoh s involuntary expulsion of the Israelites from Egypt.

Friends of Ziv indicate a few dates of expulsion of Jews :

The destruction of the First [Jewish] Temple, in Jerusalem was the watershed of Jewish history. Despite their shortcomings, the Jewish people took to heart the lessons of this destruction, on the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av, on the Hebrew calendar, and rebuilt their ethos based on that horrendous event.

In 586 BCE, the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar s army destroyed the First Temple, sending the Jews of Judah to exile in Babylon, present-day Iraq.

In 70 A.D, Roman emperor Titus destroyed the Second Temple, built on the ruins of First Temple; over one million Jews killed, while most others were expelled from their land.

1012 A.D, Emperor Henry II of Germany expelled the Jews from Mainz, marking the beginning of persecutions against Jews in Germany.

1290 A.D, expulsion of Jews from England; 1306 A.D, from France, 1593 A.D, from Italy and Bavaria.

In 1941 A.D, German Reich expulsion of Jews to Poland; bloody riots against Jews took place in Iraq.

1944 A.D, mass expulsion and extermination of the Hungarian Jews.

1945 A.D, the end of Jewish forced transport and the HOLOCAUST;: 6,000,000 Jews slaughtered was the final count.

In 1949-till-early1950s A.D., Jews were expelled from ALL Arab and Moslem lands where they dwelled for centuries.

These are just a few noteworthy dates of the suffering of Jews in their homeland and while in exile in other countries.

Jews understand forced migration, therefore we understand well the Venezuelan people s plight, forced to leave their homeland to seek medical assistance and refuge in neighboring countries, said Nurit Greenger, Board Member of Friends of Ziv.

The UN notes that, since 2015, several million Venezuelans fled their homes. Three million Venezuelans were compelled to leave their homes, or face certain death due to lack of food, medical attention, and physical safety. The millions of Venezuelans forced to leave their country exodus describes the worst humanitarian crisis in Latin America s modern history, one of the most massive forced displacements in the Western Hemisphere.

Friends of Ziv , some members of the Jewish Nation, have been watching, with great pain, the lives of millions of Venezuelans reduced to rubble. We saw the Venezuelans suffering, while bearing in our hearts the painful memories of our own suffering during a millennia, Nurit Greenger said.

Too often, people shed many tears, yet take so very little action thereafter. This is the reason Friends of Ziv created this program to support lifesaving efforts on Venezuela s borders.

Ziv medical center is located in northern Israel; Friends of Ziv Medical Center, with offices in Miami Beach, Florida, could not stand idly by, so they became vociferous about the mounting Venezuelan crisis, its consequences spilling over the continent. It was time to alert the world for the help needed, also time to present to the world Israel s ongoing humanitarian and medical efforts, assisting many countries when the call for help is heard. The Jewish state will now extend its helping hand in South America, with emphasis on Venezuela.

The United Nations resolution on the prevention and punishment of genocide, passed 65 years ago, remains merely symbolic rather than realizing its commitment and goal to fulfil its objective that underpins the establishment of the UN.

Political demurring is rarely able to deal with urgent individual human problems.

The world must know it is possible to take immediate steps to support millions of Venezuelans seeking food, medicine and medical treatment in neighboring countries.

The power of the word is the civilized world s ethos one potent weapon, also part of the Friends of Ziv organization s spirit. This Awards nomination event broadcasts to fellow Americans, and to the world, that a human tragedy, of immeasurable proportions, is taking place in our own backyard, said Nurit Greenger, Friends of Ziv media spokesperson.

We can clearly see that doctors remain the only public service offered that is not operating in the political sphere.

Besides recognizing the many doctors who selflessly bring their knowledge, skills, and compassion to those forced to leave their homes, Life & Hope Project aspires to send a team of doctors, medicines, and vaccines to Boa Vista, in Brazil, where a large number of Venezuelans seek help.

If we do our job well, with God s blessing, other doctors, pharma and laboratories companies, humane foundations and private individuals will follow in our footsteps, said gala Chair Rabbi Moshe Pitchon.

Along with our goal to create an emergency model, we at the Life & Hope project also hope that concerned States will return to their role as the guardian of their citizens needs.

A leader of great moral compass, consistently shows society the path, the right direction to take.

Friends of Ziv say it is their honor and an inspiration to salute any such leader at the red carpet gala at the Life & Hope Awards on March 21st, 2019, at the iconic Fontainebleau Hotel, in Miami Beach.

We believe that putting this event together will make our children and grandchildren fully aware of the force for good in the world, that the State of Israel projects. This is not a partisan assertion, rather the assertion of all human beings who care for other human beings, said Rabbi Moshe Pitchon, gala Chair.
