Chaya leaves may help to alleviate the symptoms of diabetes
Beaverton, United States - February 2, 2018 /MarketersMedia/ —
V-HealthTech have recently expressed their desire to do more research on Cnidoscolus aconitifolius (Chaya), as well as raising awareness for the plant. They believe that Chaya might be able to improve the lifestyle of the massive amount of Americans struggling to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. According to a 2017 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 100 million U.S adults are living with diabetes or prediabetes. The report also found that nearly 1 in 4 four adults living with diabetes – 7.2 million Americans – didn’t know they had the condition. Only 11.6 percent of adults with prediabetes knew they had it.
Also known as the Mayan Miracle Plant, Chaya has been traditionally used as food and medicine for centuries, but Western societies have only recently taken notice of its benefits, especially how effective Chaya is in promoting healthy blood sugar levels. Multiple studies as well as anecdotal records highlight the potential for Chaya to improve blood glucose levels in subjects suffering from diabetes.
“There are millions of people in the United States living with diabetes. We are always on the lookout for ways that people can improve their lifestyle, and existing evidence suggests that adding Chaya to your diet might be very beneficial if you are struggling with your blood sugar.” said V-HealthTech CEO, Rikus Joubert. “We want to do more research on this plant and bring its benefits under the attention of more people.”
The antihyperglycemic properties of Chaya isn’t its only benefit, research also shows the potential for Chaya to lower cholesterol levels. A paper published by the American Journal of Food Science and Nutrition Research suggests Chaya may have “immense significance” when it comes to its anti-hypercholesterol properties. Describing the plant as ”underexploited”, the paper also cites the high nutritional value of Chaya, saying that Chaya “has the potential to make significant nutritional and health contribution.”
